30th Annual HEC Conference

Healthcare Ethics 2035: Shaping the Future

Emory Conference Center | March 24 & 25, 2025

Call for Poster Presentation Proposals

The Healthcare Ethics Consortium (HEC) is seeking proposals for poster presentations at the March 24 – 25, 2025 conference. The 30th annual conference of the HEC will address Healthcare Ethics 2035: Shaping the Future.

As we project 10 years into the future, we reflect on current tensions and values at the intersection of healthcare and ethics, examine factors that have contributed to our current state, and explore how we can – in our own roles, professions, healthcare systems, and communities – create a more ethical future in healthcare, one that embraces change, but doesn't lose sight of our own humanity.

We welcome proposals that consider one (or more) of the following conference themes:

  1. Trust and sources of truth in healthcare: how do we combat mis- or disinformation? How can we create and strengthen trust on an individual level? What can we do to create a culture of trustworthiness in our health care institutions?
  2. What will be “valued” in 2035? How do we balance metrics and reporting with the lived human experience? What are the potential benefits or costs of metrics to quality care and healthcare professionals’ sense of professional “mattering”?
  3. Are we really listening to patients? What can we do to recognize and address our own biases? How can we advocate for patients and what advocacy or intervention is reasonable? What can we learn from listening to patients’ stories?
  4. Emerging Issues in Healthcare: What will health care look like in 2035? Will we recognize it? What part will technology play in changing delivery of care or shifting providers’ roles? Where should we invest our resources now to create a future we want to see?

Poster presentations will consist of two components:

  1. A short video presentation that will be recorded prior to the conference and available on the conference website, allowing attendees to view posters asynchronously during and after the conference.
  2. A designated time during the conference when poster presenters will have the opportunity to engage with conference attendees in person.

Poster Proposal and Format:

Your proposal should include an abstract of 100 to 300 words clearly conveying the purpose of your presentation. The abstract should also include why the topic is important and how it is relevant to the conference theme. Successful proposals will present novel conceptual perspectives, research, or robust, ethically complex case studies.

  • Poster title (should be short, descriptive, and engaging)
  • Author Name(s) & Institutional Affiliation (**each author can participate in only 1 submission)
